I am heading to Miami for a long weekend getaway with some girlfriends to escape the hurricane aftermath, catch some rays, dance all night long, and celebrate my friend, Lauren's birthday. It is always a challenge for me to pack light for short trips because it's hard to plan exactly how casual or dressy the activities will be. I took some photos of outfits that I plan on bringing which really helped narrow down my piles. It's my first time to the city so any recommendations on where to go would be great!

Halloweekend 2012

We celebrated Halloween over the weekend paying tribute to an old favorite, Grease!  Ally dressed as Sandy and Ashley dressed as a "Pink Lady" while our friends Mike and Keith dressed T-Birds or Greasers.  We went to a Halloween party where we ran into: Christian Grey, Elliot and E.T. (from the 80's film), the US Olympic gymnastics team, among others! What did you dress up as?!

This week's Fab Finds are red in honor of Taylor Swift's new album Red that was released on Monday.   Red is a bold, vibrant color and according to Bethenney Frankel, it's a power color so we encourage you to embrace it.  We also encourage you to channel your inner 16-year old selves and sing-a-long to some Taylor Swift this weekend! P.S. Rumor has it her and short-term beau Conor Kennedy have split.  The girl works fast, even more break-up ballads are in our future!

Is it possible to go overboard on J.Crew items in one outfit? No? I didn't think so either! First of all, I hope this polka dot trend never, ever leaves, I love it too much.  Second of all, the combination of these Glitterati Ballet Flats (yes, they were named Glitterati - how fitting!) and my trusty top knot up-do are making me crave the holiday season. I promise I'm not wishing Fall away, I still have lots of activities left to do but I am patiently awaiting a season of holiday festivities!

I am a huge sucker for oversized sweaters that can double as a warm blanket. I love how this one has a simplified southwestern print with some touches of neon that coordinate so perfectly with my Cambridge Satchel (that I wore a lot over the summer). I was also hesitant about the dark lip color for fall, but I like the change from my bright pinks and oranges.

These are a few of my favorite things! I love being able to mix fabrics in the fall: chambray, tweed, leather, suede, you name it. I grabbed this skirt on super sale last spring and just took the tags off this week. I love when that happens, it's a shopping trip to my own closet! As we get older and schedules get busier, the weekend gatherings with college friends are becoming more infrequent, making events like homecoming bittersweet. UMass will always be the common factor that brings us all together.

We are traveling to Gillette Stadium, the current UMass home field, for a full day of tail-gaiting, football, and alumni festivities.  The UMass Amherst colors are maroon and white so this week's Fab Finds are UMass colors to show our support.

On my way to work in the morning the sun isn't even up yet, I am still half asleep, and I'm usually in a huge rush. But lately the leaves are just at the perfect state that when the sun rises through the trees, it's very refreshing. As much as I would love to move south, I do really appreciate the fall in New England. Plus, it's my favorite season for clothes and I get to celebrate my birthday (soon)!

Fall means one thing: lots of layers!!!  I was secretly happy to pull this sweater out of storage last weekend and to wear it this week.  It's an old favorite from J. Crew, one that I find to be a timeless piece that I can dress up or dress down.  This time I went for a modern Audrey Hepburn look thanks to the red hot pants and leopard print top!

I have to wish my mom a very Happy Birthday today! She is fabulous and jazzy and I give her credit for letting me show my creative side from a very young age.... like when I would ONLY wear my Cinderella costume to the grocery store, or jeans and patent leather loafers to Friendly's. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't feel encouraged to take risks or not care what other people think.

After an unseasonably cold and rainy week we finally had some nice weather on Sunday!  I don't find it cold enough for a true coat yet so blazers have been my go-to.  Blazers are the perfect extra layer for indoors and out; they also offer a polished look to almost any outfit.  What are your thoughts on blazers?

Confession: I bought this shirt at Forever 21 months ago (hence why I can't find it online anymore) and never, ever wore it and now I am obsessed; I love when that happens! I've worn this top quite a bit lately and decided to tailor it to a more work appropriate look, with a little edge. Nothing says "work" more than a pair of J.Crew Cafe Capris but mixed with the right pieces they can be great, plus they are super comfy for those long days.

Falling Fast

Here in New England the temperatures are falling fast and I don't like it one bit.  I can't believe I've already broken out my puffer vest but with a high of 45 on Sunday, it was a necessity for galavanting around town.  Fall tends to bring on more muted and neutral colors but I'm not ready to give up my bright pieces yet; you may be seeing a little more of this green denim!

Happy Columbus Day!

Sometimes it's just really hard to keep up with the weather in New England. Last night was the perfect night for fall scented candles, comfort food, football (if you're a fan), and slippers. The true fall weather arrived with minimal warning so it's time to warm up with some hot beverages... as we are in the office. Hope you're all enjoying your Columbus Day (whether you have the day off or not)!

One of the best ways to refresh and prepare for the new season is to switch over your closet to in-season pieces, dry clean those sweaters that have been in storage, and think about donating those items that you probably haven't worn in years. That way you can take inventory of trends to keep, trends that have come and gone, what you need, and what you don't need any more of!
