After our "Great Whites" Fab Finds on Friday, we were really into the white button downs at the Cape this weekend. A basic white shirt, cut off jean shorts, and hat were really clutch items for the muggy, gloomy weather we had, but it still didn't keep us off the beach!

I bought this dress in the winter and I could just never figure out what to do with it but I think I found the solution. The chevron pattern and style of the dress felt very mod so I decided to keep it modern with some bright accessories and a belt to make a more flattering fit.

Some More Sparkle

This is the outfit I wore to work Monday, a coincidentally similar outfit to Ally's post that same day.  My look is definitely the work version of the two complete with pants, ballet flats, and my specs. Both outfits use sparkle accessories to liven things up a bit!

In the City

Last week I was lucky enough to take a trip to NYC for a work meeting. It was in the middle of the heat wave so I kept the layers minimal and just added some classic peep toes, a few glitzy accessories, and a light pink lip color.

Newport Polo

This past weekend I attended my first polo match with some friends in Newport after a gorgeous day at the beach.  We got dolled up and took in the sights at the polo field, which was gorgeous, as were the horses (see pics below!). The US team beat Argentina and I was able to wear my big floppy sun hat; all it all it was a good day for everyone.

Some Sparkle

Summers in my family consist of being poolside and lots of cookouts. This past weekend we had a birthday party for my 10 year old cousin Jack (see his amazing Pac Man cake below!) and just like every other cookout so far, I went casual and pretty basic. Can't go wrong with a white tee, some colorful shorts, and a few elements of sparkle!

COATT is a family run business based in LA.  Their unique design uses gold dots and dashes to spell out words, names, and phrases in Morse Code. You can have a necklace (or bracelet) made with your name or pick one of their already made necklaces with words like "lucky", "kiss me" or "friend" (picture #2).  Get one for yourself or a friend!

Even though I'm not wearing any stripes, this outfit still feels very nautical.  These shorts are old favorites from J. Crew and I love how pairing them with a vibrant top and nautical jewelry gives them a sea-side vibe; and on a day like yesterday's 95 degrees I did everything I could to pretend I was by the water (no such luck!)

In an ideal world, wearing cool colors would offset the hot/humid air this summer, but it doesn't exactly work that way. Ashley + I draw a lot of our outfit inspiration from trends in the J.Crew catalogues (see our Pinterest for our favorite looks!) and the monochromatic look is definitely on the top of our list. PS... my mom's Etsy shop will be opening up soon!

Homemade

For an item of clothing  I didn't actually buy, I get a lot of use out of these denim shorts in the summer.  They were crafted from an old pair of Abercrombie & Fitch jeans left neglected in the back of my closet and since I knew I'd never wear them again they became the perfect option for homemade cut-offs!  By making them myself I was able to keep them at a short, yet acceptable length so I encourage anyone out there with old jeans to give it a shot. Denim cut-offs are my go-to for the summer whether it's over my bathing suit at the beach or running errands around town.  As you can see I love them with a white top and fun accessories!

I Dream of Genie

These silk pants are borderline pajamas they're so comfortable, but I love them and they make me feel like a genie! The challenge is finding a top that dresses them up enough to make the outfit look appropriate for public and not just for being a couch potato. I also tend to not wear a lot of neutrals in one outfit, so I added a pop of color by matching my lipstick to my bag.

I bought this skirt a while back and completely forgot about it... don't you love when that happens?! It's like going shopping in your own closet! Anyway, it has so many great colors in it and I can dress it down or dress it up for a more flirty look.  In this outfit I chose a lighter top so that the printed bottom of the skirt would stand out and paired it with a vintage GAP belt around my waist to break up the two pieces.
