A little treat for you... here's a fun and easy holiday updo to try, especially for the New Year! I started off with some loose waves and then just a hair elastic and some bobby pins to hold it all up. The thing about updo's is they can either look too High School Prom or elegant like a celeb at the Oscars. We vote the Oscars look... something that's loose and doesn't require 20 personal stylists. Earth Tones

This post is very different from Ally's Rainbow Sherbet look yesterday.  The New England weather has suddenly become very cold and too windy (for my liking).  Heading out for a late dinner last night I wore this outfit with a few similarly colored layers that really fit the weather.  I absolutely love this necklace and you will see it pictured often on Ally and me; it is the perfect statement piece, especially for an outfit as toned down as this.  Lastly, I have photographed these shoes before and I cannot tell you how comfortable they are.  The weathered look and thick heel make them the perfect winter bootie and I can wear them on a day-to-day basis; a shoe like this is worth buying, promise!

Sometimes on gloomy winter days (although I can't really say we've experienced full blow winter yet in New England) it's more fun to boost your spirits with as many bright colors as you can. I opted out of a big dazzly necklace for this outfit and let the colors do the talking. And of course, a touch of animal print is like the cherry on top. I love these wedge booties from J.Crew. They are so comfortable and a reasonable height. I like to add little colorful ankle socks to give them that extra element of sass.

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.. here is a little glimpse of some Christmas fashions from the weekend.  My sister, Michelle, and I both decided on black dresses with lace accents for the annual Christmas Eve party held at our house.  Ironically, her dress from Zanna belongs to me while my dress from Forever 21 belongs to her.  Sometimes you are just tired of your own options and it's more fun (and festive) to try out someone else's!  We are both in black which isn't the most festive option for the holidays but it's classic and the lace tops made them more than just your average "little black dress".  What did you all wear?! We would love to hear!

This past weekend was my work holiday party at this great little place even deeper into the wilderness than I live already. It's always interesting to see people out of their element so it was fun to see everyone all dressed up and with their significant others! This is Heather, she was my +1 to the party, and life long friend. We both really pushed the limits of being "fashionably late" and had fun dressing up for the festivities and catching up! Christmas Glam

This past weekend I attended my friend Sara's 3rd annual Christmas party.  Preceded by "Red and White Candy Cane Night" and "Christmas Pajama Mama", the most recent theme was "Christmas Glam".  As you can see, I opted for the the ever trusty animal print! I paired them with these great pants  (borrowed from my sister!) that I had been looking for an excuse to wear and a red sweater and nails that gave a needed pop of Christmas color.  Everyone looked great (see below) and we had a fabulous night complete with cupcakes, every appetizer imaginable, and a hot chocolate bar! Bring on the velvet! The Christmas season is my favorite time to wear this luxurious material. This Elie Tahari blazer is the perfect velvet item. This one is a few seasons old but you can purchase a similar one here by Elie Tahari or pop on over to J. Crew and check out the classic schoolboy blazer. A piece like this, made of a fabric you don't normally wear, can really transform a normal outfit, I love it!

Meet your Glitterati

Ashley & Ally

As some of you may know, we are Ashley and Ally; two 20-something blondes with life long loves for fashion.

Ashley, an English nerd and aspiring teacher, loves reading, boots, all things Audrey Hepburn, french vanilla coffee, and belting out renditions of Celine Dion with her best friends - anytime, anywhere.

Ally, a dancer and architect/designer, owns every season of Friends, redecorates a room the second it's out of style, has a J.Crew catalogue archive dating back to 2003, and would love to work at the Apple Genius Bar.

We started this blog in early September 2011 to document and share the looks we wear and love. We are both J.Crew enthusiasts (obviously) but aside from that, we love being inspired by new lines of clothing, jewelry, and beauty products. Fashion and style is sometimes about taking risks - hence why trends get started in the first place - so we love being able to share with you and hope you get as much joy out of Confessions of the Glitterati as the Glitterati do! After all, we did grow up in the 90's so we had to make a comeback somehow.

Our best advice to you: Never leave the house in sweats. A girl must be prepared to meet a dashing stranger or an old enemy.

Preppy Patterns & Ponytails

Get in the Christmas spirit with some fun patterns and patent pumps! I snagged this skirt at J.Crew TOTALLY on sale and I love the buttons in the front and the fit is just perfect. On a chilly morning there's nothing more cozy than a turtleneck to keep you warm and I loved the way the horizontal stripes mismatched with the blue and green plaid. It's fun to experiment with patterns and textures and to pull it all together with a simple, sleek ponytail. Crazy how back in the day, if something didn't match perfectly it was like fashion suicide, but now it's all about purposefully not matching and mixing crazy colors! The Glitterati love it!!
